After WWII, food manufactures were tasked with finding ways of promoting the new convenience foods created from techniques perfected during the war. Obviously housewives were the target market, but research found the women were not impressed. One study actually revealed that most housewives thought that only loose, morally questionable women would use a store bought cake mix. It was found that the entire perception was changed by simply having the would-be baker add their own eggs to the mix, instead of the manufacturer including dry eggs.
